Offences Against the Person

Offences against the person are crimes that involve threat or physical violence against another person

Fighting in Public Places

Any person participating in an illegal fight in a public place commits a crime, punishable by a fine of up to HK$5,000 and 12 months' imprisonment

Common Assault

that intentionally or recklessly cause another person to fear immediate unlawful violence. The maximum penalty for common assault is 1 year in prison. Example of common assault include hitting another person with a fist or weapon (even if the target is not hit) or drawing a weapon with the intent to harm another

Assault Occasioning Actual Bodil Harm(AOABH)

AOABH involves the intentional or reckless infliction of physical harm on another person. This can include actions that cause injuries requiring medical attention or that result in lasting physical effects. Anyone convicted of AOABH may face up to 3 years' imprisonment.

Manslaughter

Manslaughter can be voluntary or involuntary. It involves taking the life of another, without the intention to kill or by reason of diminished responsibility

Murder

Anyone convicted of murder will be sentenced to life imprisonment, which is the highest penalty under Hong Kong law. For individuals under 18, the court may decide whether to impose life imprisonment or a shorter sentence at its discretion
